How to Recover Partition with AOMEI FastRecovery.

Updated October 16, 2026

Introduction

Use Partition Recovery to locate a missing partition and restore it together with the data it contains. This guide explains how to prepare the disk, choose a search method, identify the correct partition, and start recovery in AOMEI FastRecovery.

When to use Partition Recovery

A partition may disappear or become inaccessible after accidental deletion, partition table damage, malware activity, or an unexpected power interruption. Bad sectors can also prevent Windows from reading partition information. A partition shown as RAW may indicate damaged file system information; recovery depends on the condition of the disk and the information that remains available.
Once you notice the loss, stop saving files to the affected disk. Do not format it or create new partitions before attempting recovery. Further changes may overwrite information needed to recover the original partition. Recovery is not guaranteed, particularly when data has already been overwritten.

How to use Partition Recovery in AOMEI FastRecovery

Before you begin

Install and open AOMEI FastRecovery on a Windows computer. Make sure your edition includes an activated Partition Recovery feature; follow the upgrade instructions if prompted. Connect the affected disk and confirm that the computer recognizes it. Keep the connection and power supply stable throughout the process.

Step 1: Select the Affected Disk

Under “Disk Data Recovery” in the panel, open “Partition Recovery.” Identify the disk containing the lost partition by checking the disk number, capacity, and model. Review the partition layout below the disk list, then click “Next.” Select the entire disk that contains the missing partition.

Step 2: Choose a search method

Start with Fast Search, the recommended option for quickly locating deleted or lost partitions. If it does not locate the partition you need, try Full Search. This method examines the selected disk sector by sector and generally takes longer. Select a method, then click "Next" to begin.

Step 3: Let the search finish

Monitor the progress while AOMEI FastRecovery checks the disk. Keep the device connected and wait for the search to finish before assessing the results. Use "Pause" to temporarily suspend the search, or "Stop" to end the current search.
Full Search may take considerable time. An empty results list during an ongoing search does not, by itself, mean that no partitions can be recovered. Wait for more time.

Step 4: Check the results and start recovery

When the search finishes, review the detected partitions and select the checkbox beside the partition you want to recover. Compare its details with the original partition rather than relying on its name alone. Once you have confirmed your selection, click "Proceed" to continue with recovery.

Search Result

Identify the correct partition
Use the following details in the results list to check your selection:
Partition: The name or identifier assigned to the detected partition.
File System: The detected file system, such as NTFS.
Capacity: The partition size. Compare it with the size you remember.
Start Sector and End Sector: The boundaries of the partition on the disk. These help verify its location.
Flag: The partition type, such as Primary or Logical.
Search Complete means that scanning has ended. You still need to select a partition and proceed with recovery. After recovery finishes, check whether the partition appears in Windows and whether its files can be opened.

FAQs:

Q: How does Partition Recovery differ from Partition Lost Recovery?
A: Partition Recovery restores the partition itself along with its data. Partition Lost Recovery focuses on retrieving files from a lost partition without changing the original partition state. Choose the feature according to whether you need the partition restored or its files extracted.
Q: What if the partition does not appear in the results?
A: Verify the disk selection and device connection first. If No partition found appears after Fast Search, click Back, switch to Full Search, and select Next to search again. Review any new results using the capacity, file system, and sector boundaries.
