Why Do You Need Data Insurance for Your Home?

As our lives have became more digital, we store more and more information on our electronic devices. Photos, videos, work files, records, and other important data that we can’t live without. When everything is working, we don’t spare our data a second thought.

For most of us, our data isn’t just software or meaningless files, they are photos full of memories with family and friends, that presentation we prepared to get the promotion, the academic thesis, and the experimental data we spent countless late nights finishing in the lab.

Some data simply can’t be recreated, and when it’s possible to recreate the data it usually will take a mountain of time and effort that could be better spent doing other things.

There are so many possible causes of Data Loss. Computers can crash, data can be accidentally overwritten, your system could power off never to work again, or even a spilt coffee.

Every day, tens of thousands of people search the internet looking how to recover lost data on their computers, but the fact is, even if they were to take their drives to a clean room to be examined success wouldn’t be guaranteed. With SSDs, you only have an 18% chance of recovering the data as the success rate drops by a shocking 40%, this is on top of the fact that Data Recovery is very expensive. Simple hard drive Data Recovery can cost upwards of $7,500!

When compared to paying thousands of dollars to have your hard drive examined, backing up your data is a cost-effective, reliable, and easy to use Data Loss prevention solution.

Types of Data Insurance

There are various different types of data loss risk can be covered by Data Insurance. We believe that your computer needs a comprehensive insurance solution to cover the specific risks that you face. This insurance is designed to assist you if your computer is unable to operate due to hardware failure. Not surprisingly, the majority of Data Loss events occur due to hardware failure. Roughly 140,000 hard drives crash each week in the United States due to human error and physical damage caused by accidents. Another leading cause of Data Loss are computers overheating due to a buildup of dust – When was the last time you cleaned your computer? You can use hard drive backups to restore important information in order to avoid the risk of permanent data loss from hardware failure.

  • Viruses & Malwares Insurance

This insurance is designed reduce the risk of Data Loss caused by an external intrusion on your computer. Viruses are known to cause infected computers to become either partially or completely unusable. Personal computers have a higher level of infection rate when compared to enterprise system as users typically have a lower level of technical knowledge and protection. The highest risk comes from the unwitting user clicking on fake web links, opening phishing emails, or connecting an infected external device. The resulting viruses usually will quickly destroy or steal data on the computer and others on the network. System and disk backups allow users to restore the entire system infection to a version prior to infection, thereby, eliminating the virus and ensuring data integrity.

  • Human Error Insurance

This insurance is designed to prevent users who are mainly your friends or family member that intentionally or unintentionally cause Data Loss. Human Error is one of the leading causes of Data Loss with other parties inadvertently overwriting important documents or deleting critical files. Users who are unfamiliar with the software or operating system can incorrectly configure the computer and format hard drives causing Data Loss. Human Error unfortunately can also include other types of physical Data Loss through hard drive damage, liquid spills, and other accidents. In order to prevent Data Loss cause by Human Error we recommend you create backups of important systems and data by using regular automatic backup software.

  • Disaster Insurance

This insurance is designed to prevent Data Loss caused by unforeseen disasters destroying your computers. When disaster strikes nothing is safe. Your computer could easily be destroyed beyond repair with nothing left for data recovery. This is why we recommend the 3-2-1 backup strategy which includes an offsite copy of the data for easy restoration. With an offsite backup you can restore the data on your other system and resume your life as though nothing has happened. AOMEI Backupper supports backing up to the Cloud and external storage systems, which effectively allows users to avoid the Data Loss caused by disasters.

  • Software/System Failure Insurance

This insurance is designed to assist with unexpected data, software, and system unavailability. When software decides to misbehavior it can have massive consequences for your data. Crashing, not responding, requesting you restore to a previous version, are all common errors which can not only damage your unsaved work but also cause your entire system to become unstable. Additionally, unexpected shutdowns, viruses, and crashes (all software related) can all corrupt your data causing Data Loss. Luckily, all of these risks can be prevented by Data Insurance by using AOMEI Backupper to make hard drive and system backups. In the event of failure, Data Insurance through hard drive and system backups can allow you to restore your software and systems to its pre-failure state ensuring that you don’t lose even a moment of sleep over Data Loss.

  • Power Outages Insurance

This insurance is designed to prevent system damage and Data Loss caused by unexpected power outages. Power outages strike when users least expect it and are a relatively common and unavoidable global occurrence. Whilst you might believe power outages can’t cause any damage, they can result in the loss of unsaved data and damage to existing files due to an incorrect shutdown procedure. Regular file or system backups effectively enable you restore your files quickly even after power outages.

Case Study

Three years ago Brendan was in college, after an all-nighter he finally finished his assignment and left his laptop on his desk without shutting it down. The next day when he woke up, he found that his PC had crashed was showing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. After force restarting his laptop, he found that it could no longer detect his hard drive.

Brendan took his laptop to a tech repair store when the employee informed him that the hard drive was damaged and that it would cost $1,500 to attempt the recover his data with no guarantees it would work.

Brendan couldn’t afford $1,500 to recover his data as he was a college student and now all of his previous study materials, photos, and assignments were lost. After Brendan replaced his hard drive he started to consider protecting his data to make sure it couldn’t happen again.

This is when Brendan found AOMEI Backupper Standard, a free version of Data Insurance! After using AOMEI Backupper to backup all his data, Brendan was very satisfied with how easy it was to use. Brendan then purchased AOMEI Backupper Professional as the automatic backup feature allowed him to regularly perform differential backups (backups that only save the differences).

The Universal Restore function in AOMEI Backupper allowed him to restore his backup image to computers with different hardware. This was amazing for Brendan when he replaced his laptop with a new one as it saved him loads of time and effort as he didn’t need to reinstall his programs or move his files. Now that Brendan has invested in Data Insurance and has automatic daily backups, he no longer worries about losing his data.

Case Study

Cole owns a grill manufacturing plant in America. In the Summer of 2018 a severe rainstorm caused a power outage, all of his equipment stopped running, and he had water up to his ankles whilst the roof was about to collapse. Cole immediately focused all of his and his employees’ efforts on dealing with the water ingress and shoring up the roof. Once the rain had cleared and the water was cleaned up, they restarted the power and found the equipment to still be operational.

Cole was naturally relieved until his employees started to report that most of the computers couldn’t be turned on. 6 workstations could no longer detect their hard drives and nearly a half showed the Blue Screen of Death after several restarts. The workstations had been damaged by moisture and the impact when employees moved them to avoid the water.

CAD drawings, customer contact details, customer orders, supplier information, financial records – all of these were lost.

How can Cole continue the business without his data?

Cole consulted specialist data recovery technicians who quoted $30,000 for the hard drives data recovery and warned him that they couldn’t guarantee success.

Cole paid the eyewatering amount and after a few weeks they manage to recover 65% of the data. Cole suffered further losses due to the business interruption totaling approximately $110,000 in lost orders and refunds with an unknown number for the damage to his reputation.

Ever since, Cole has sought out a better data security solution which maintains high levels of data security, minimizes downtime, and ensures data integrity. Cole finally chose AOMEI’s Data Insurance service and purchased AOMEI Backupper Enterprise Edition and AOMEI Centralized Backupper. He deployed the software on his employees’ workstations and centrally managed the backup through AOMEI Centralized Backupper.

Cole now strictly adheres to the 3-2-1 backup strategy. He uses AOMEI Backupper to back up to external hard drives, the Cloud and NAS. Now he has three copies of data on at least two different types of media and one copy physically outside the factory.

If there’s another disaster, AOMEI Backupper allows Cole to restore the whole system, including disk partitions, and files/folders. He uses the incremental backup function to reduce backup file size and backup time. Cole also turned on automatic backup to reduce human error and increase the stability of the backup management. At the same time, through AOMEI Centralized Backupper, Cole is able to create, encrypt, compress, split, check, and comment on backup images for workstations on the LAN form one central management console.

Cole now believes that the factory has increased its level of data security, which provides him with a guarantee for his business continuity and data integrity.
