Windows 11 brings changes to right-click menu

Microsoft has released Windows 11, which brings many design changes and improvements. If you have already upgraded to Windows 11, then you should know that the new system's context menu has been overhauled. Win11 removes a lot of options from the previous system's context menu and puts them into "Show more options", which users need to click to display the original functions.

The advantages of this change are obvious: Windows 11's new context menu is larger, easier to read and touch, and has shortcut buttons for users to copy, paste, rename and delete. The new right-click menu makes it cleaner by hiding all the third-party functions that used to cause the function options to be bloated.

However, Win11's right-click menu is not perfect. For example, clicking on "Show more options" opens the classic context menu design, but this menu currently suffers from design and padding problems. Microsoft is currently trying to further improve the design.

Microsoft is testing the improved right-click menu in Dev channel

As the screenshot above shows, Microsoft is testing a newly designed right-click menu look that appears when right-clicking on a folder in File Explorer, or right-clicking on the desktop. This menu function is basically equivalent to Win10's right-click menu, but has been replaced with a new design that looks very clean. It uses a new blue accent color, similar to modern Windows applications. However, it still cannot be linked to the accent color set by users in Windows 11.

Microsoft is testing the improved right-click menu in the Dev channel in Insider, and the design will get better in the final version. However, it is not yet known when the new design of the right-click menu will be pushed for more users, and it is possible that the new design will be included in the 22H2 version of Windows 11, which is expected to be released in October 2022.

For users who want feature options to appear immediately with a right-click on the desktop, the new Win11 preview comes with an additional change, which is performance improvements. Previously, Win11's right-click menu was too unresponsive, and Microsoft has listened to users' opinions and is about to improve the problem.

The future version of Windows 11 will bring the right-click menu and Explorer.exe performance improvements. Microsoft will also fix crashes caused by File Explorer and Taskbar, and these improvements will be pushed together with the future Tuesday patch bundle.
