Microsoft is Testing Text Prediction in Canary Channel

Microsoft is working on another interesting feature for Chromium Edge, called Text Prediction, which will use Microsoft's in-house AI and ML technology to suggest the best possible words as users type on the Web. The feature is being rolled out to select users of Windows 10 and Windows 11, testing it in the browser's Canary channel.

Microsoft Edge's text prediction feature is similar to the way predictions work in Microsoft Editor or Outlook. For example, if you want to accept Microsoft's text predictions, you just need to click the tab key or the right arrow key. If you want to ignore the suggestion, you can continue typing and the preview will disappear.

According to Microsoft's roadmap, text prediction will soon be available to other users to help them write better messages online. If you are using the Edge Dev or Canary version, you can try the experimental text prediction by making sure that your device's region and language settings are set to United States.

How Microsoft Edge Text Prediction Works

Microsoft Edge's new feature can help you write faster and with fewer errors when browsing search engines or social media sites. When the feature is enabled, Edge displays its predictions or suggestions in a gray suggestion box anywhere you write online.

If you accept a suggestion with a "tab" or "right arrow," it is automatically inserted into your notes. In addition, Edge's predictions feature only works on Windows 10 or Windows 11. It's not clear when the feature will be added to the macOS version.

Microsoft is planning to add support for more regions in an upcoming update. If you have any feedback, you can share it from … > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

In addition to text suggestions, Edge also gets support for a new sidebar that will allow users to access the Games panel, Discovery panel, and more.
