Compared with Windows 10, Windows 11, the new generation operating system, has significantly improved the UI and brought several new features and improvements. At the same time, Microsoft has also removed some features of Win10 on Win11. Let's take a look.

windows 11

1. Internet Explorer

Microsoft initially kept IE just because of the one reason of Internet banking, but as the major Internet banking masters kept upgrading, the value of IE's existence has become smaller and smaller. In Win11, the independent Internet Explorer has ceased to exist, and Edge has taken its place. And the new IE compatibility mode will also take over the old version of IE, dealing with the very few special cases in reality.

2. Tiles

The concept of tiles first originated in Windows 8 and was improved in Windows 10. However, with the shift of Microsoft's strategic direction, the role of tiles is not as useful as it used to be, and by the late Win10, the tiles that really work are basically limited to a few components built into the system. With the arrival of the new generation of Windows, tiles were finally removed from the operating system. Part of the function, by the newly added "widgets" to take over.

3. Cortana

Cortana was first introduced as a tool for Microsoft to counteract its competitors, and like tiles, Microsoft initially paved a bright future for it. However, the actual performance of Cortana is far from bright as expected. Due to the lack of sufficient localization, it can rarely help users, and the most common tip is "Sorry, I can't help you in this area yet". In Win11, Microsoft has no longer included it in the main interface, and the fixed seat of TA has been removed from the taskbar.

4. Tablet mode

Win11 eliminates the original "tablet mode" switch and replaces it with a more intelligent automatic detection mechanism. In Win11, the system detects the connection status between the keyboard and the computer and intelligently determines whether to open the tablet mode. In tablet mode, the icon spacing will be enlarged, and the window layout will be automatically adjusted to the most suitable style as the device rotates. Therefore, in a strict sense, the tablet mode is not gone, but becomes more powerful.

5. Timeline

As part of Win10's big platform strategy, TimeLine also has an irreplaceable role in Microsoft's landscape. However, due to the failure of Microsoft's transformation and the long-standing lack of features (for example, there has been no Edge tab), the value of TimeLine has not been recognized by the public. In Win11, the TimeLine feature was officially cancelled and we can't see it in the virtual desktop.

6. Skype

Microsoft Teams replaced Skype as the default communication tool in Windows 11. Compared to Skype for Win10, Microsoft Teams is more focused on team communication and collaboration, especially its collaboration experience in Microsoft Office.

7. Taskbar

The taskbar has been stripped of most customization settings. Previously, we could modify the default position of the taskbar (left/right/top/bottom) through options, or adjust the display of programs (buttons/icons) according to our preferences. All these, however, are removed in Win11, and even the style of the notification tray has been adjusted. In Win11, Microsoft starts to pay more attention to the touch screen user experience, and all the things that affect these experiences will be removed.

Write in the end

Every system change means a large number of old features are eliminated, while a large number of new features show their head. So this time Microsoft took a bold move, did it cut the features you like?
