When operating Windows 11, you may find that some files placed on the desktop suddenly disappeared, and after searching, they are not really gone, but moved to the Recycle Bin. How come this happens? Because in Windows 11, there is no pop-up box for deleting files, once you accidentally touch the Delete key, the selected files will be deleted silently and put into the Recycle Bin.

There is no doubt that this setting is prone to misuse, and many people who upgraded to Windows 11 from the old system may not be used to such a mechanism. So, what can you do to make Win11 pop up the deletion confirmation box when deleting files? Here are 2 effective methods.

Method 1: Recycle Bin Settings

This is the easiest way. Find the icon of Recycle Bin, right-click it and select "Properties".

In the properties panel of the Recycle Bin, you can see the option "Show deletion confirmation dialog box", check it and click "OK" or "Apply" to save.

After deleting the file, a confirmation box will pop up.

Method 2: Modify the registry

This is another way to achieve the same effect.

First, open the Registry Editor directly through the system search and locate the following directory.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\

Observe if there is an entry for Explorer, if not, right-click on "Policies" and create a new entry named "Explorer".

Right-click on the Explorer item and create a new "DWORD (32-bit) value", and name it "ConfirmFileDelete".

Double-click "ConfirmFileDelete", change its value to "1", save and exit the Registry Editor, and restart the system.

Overall, Microsoft disable the delete confirmation in Windows 11 by default to improve the efficiency of deletion operation, but it may also cause more misuse of the situation. You can adjust it according to your own habits.
