As early as August 17, 2021, some Microsoft devices will not support Internet Explorer 11. Some Windows 10 programs that support IE 11 will also be officially retired in June 2022. This gives IE users plenty of time to migrate to other browsers, such as Microsoft Edge. So you can stop personalizing IE anymore.

Fortunately, Edge's IE mode lets you access the sites your business needs right in your browser. IE mode in Edge uses the integrated Chromium engine for current sites; uses the Trident MSHTML engine from Internet Explorer 11 for legacy sites.

IE mode in Edge does not support Internet Explorer features are the following:

  • IE11 or Microsoft Edge F12 Developer Tools
  • Internet Explorer settings and group policies that control the navigation menu.
  • Internet Explorer Toolbar

IE mode in Edge supports Internet Explorer features as follows:

  • Internet Explorer settings and group policies that affect security zones and protected mode
  • F12 Developer Tools for IE when launched with IEChooser
  • Microsoft Edge Extensions (Extensions that directly interact with IE page content are not supported.)
  • All document modes and enterprise modes
  • ActiveX controls (such as Java or Silverlight). Note: Silverlight will end support on October 12, 2021.

Steps to turn on IE mode in Microsoft Edge

First, click on the "..." icon, then select "Settings" to switch to "Default browse" in the pop-up window.

Next, toggle the "Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode" switch. IE mode will be enabled after restarting the browser.

When you want to access the interface with IE mode, open the Edge browser and click the "..." button in the upper right corner, you can see the option to reload in Internet Explorer mode in "More Tools". After clicking, the page will automatically refresh and switch to IE mode.

When the visited site is loaded in IE mode, you can see the IE logo indicator on the left side of the navigation bar. Click on the IE logo to see more details.

The IE mode of the Edge browser is perfectly compatible with the online banking login function, and users do not need to worry about upgrading Windows 11. In addition, the Edge browser on Win10 is the same as the Win11 version, you can also follow the steps to enable IE mode.
