About the Issue
According to the security reports, the amwrtdrv.sys driver used in certain versions of AOMEI Backupper has an access control issue. Attackers who already have local access may be able to exploit this issue to bypass permission restrictions and perform unauthorized operations on physical disks.
This security issue does not mean that all devices running the affected versions have actually been compromised. We are sharing this information to help users understand the associated risks.
Actions We Have Taken
After receiving the relevant feedback, AOMEI conducted a technical investigation and released AOMEI Backupper 8.5.0 on October 9, 2026, to fix the amwrtdrv.sys driver issue. We will continue to monitor security feedback and enhance the product’s security measures as needed.
