I found that, with secure boot off, the DVD would still not boot.
Boot mode also has to be changed from UEFI to CSM.
THEN, after selecting DVD as boot device (F12), it booted from the DVD (whew).

Do you have to do this every time you want to boot from DVD,
or disable it and leave it that way?

May I ask why you do not put all of the required files (like the BCDBOOT.EXE) into the boot disk to begin with?
Personally, I have no idea how you can add a file to an already made disc.

Well, that is very informative.
Don't know why such distinction cannot be made obvious, or at least accessible
(e.g., a "what are the differences" link).

Cancel the previous; I reinstalled and it works now. Don't know why it did that strange thing--it seemed to be running fine, just wanted the code.
