Cloned HD won't boot.
I cloned my internal 500 GB HD onto a 1 TB external HD but the OS wouldn't boot after the switch. Win 8.1 64 bit. Is there a reason I can't use an external HD as internal or am I missing something else?

If you want to do the clone directly, we advice you put the 1TB disk as the internal disk.
If not, we advice you use the AOMEI Backupper to do the backup and restore. After you finish the backiup of the source disk, you need to create the bootable USB with AOMEI Backupper to boot into the WINPE to do the restore.
Have both drives the same partition style: GPT or MBR? Win 8.1 is probably GPT with UEFI. The former external drive may have the MBR style. They are not compatible. So convert the 1TB to the same partition style as the original and clone again.
UEFI<=>GPT, BIOS<=>MBR.
B.t.w. what happens when you press (left) Shift while power on the PC? Sometimes it does the trick.
