Moving an encrypted partition

I posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/VeraCrypt/comments/15ftcue/expanding_the_volume_of_an_already_created/ and here https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/technical/thread/c50997edb2/ seeking an answer to moving an encrypted Veracrypt partition.

I was told it could be accomplished with AOMEI, but I see no way to do it.

I was using the free version.

  • I need to swap the positions of two volumes.  I don't have enough space on my encrypted partition, which originally was sitting to the right of a separate data partition.

Your probably already aware of this, but I'll mention it to be sure I'm understanding.  I shrunk the data partition by 25g, in order to add the space to the encrypted partition.  The complication is that, because of the way Veracrypt constructs things, the only way to do this is to move the 25g volume to the right of the encrypted partition.

Are we saying that can be accomplished with Aomei.  I didn't see a way to do it.

If so, can you give me instructions?

    thanks

Hello, before writing this, I created a Veracrypt partition, put files inside, unmounted. Used PA to move partition 2GB to the right, mounted with VeraCrypt (VC), unlocked, all files fine. Used BU to clone unmounted encrypted partition, and also backup > restore, files always fine. Always Exact Sector-by-sector method.
On Aomei website, it says PA free will move partition, but I have not seen the free version in years.
Please get as far as you can in moving this partition, and then post a screenshot where you are stuck. Are you able to move a normal unencrypted partition? Please create a 1GB NTFS empty partition, and move it 1GB, to test it, and of course delete it after test. Please reply if you are able to move this empty partition, that will help us narrow down if the problem is with moving an encrypted partition. Could you please also confirm you have dismounted the encrypted partition in VC before you ask PA to move it?
If your partition is medium to large size, it will take a very long time for PA to move it, even under normal circumstances. It may be faster and easier to use BackUpper (BU) to backup the encrypted partition, then restore it wherever you want. Remember when backing up or cloning encrypted partition, always use Exact Sector-by-sector method. Always have your data and files backed up somewhere else, before you do these operations, in case there is an error. Never have your data in only 1 place at a time.

  • @Ororite, Sorry that AOMEI Partition Assistant currently can't support encrypted Veracrypt partitions.

On 5/5/23, Aomei said PA supports cloning encrypted partition with exact-sector-by-sector method.
On 8/11/23, Aomei said PA does not support encrypted partitions.
Aomei, could you please contact a senior engineer, and clarify these conflicting statements.

  • @AiArtisan, Our software can back up or clone the encrypted partitions. But, AOMEI Partition Assistant can't resize encrypted partitions by Veracrypt.
  • Ok, thank you sir, I didn't know it.
