Basic questions from a newbie (lame technical talent)

Good day,

- Can I back up multiple computers to a single hard drive?  If so, does this include disk backup?

- Can the destination drive be password protected?

- If multiple computers can be disk backed up, do they all have to be the same OS (XP, 7, etc.)

I am trying to provide a safe haven for photos and geneology in case of a hard disk drive crash.  These are on different computers.

Thank you !

Yes, you can backup multiple machines to a single drive.  This can be a shared network drive or an external drive.  If the drive is password protected, you will need to ensure that the network logon is completed before you attempt to save there.  If it's an external drive that's using some kind of encryption, you'll need to make sure that the drive is usable in Windows first.  As for the OS version, you can mix them up.  Aomei Backupper needs to have access to the drive from any of the systems you're intending to back up.  So if it's a USB drive for instance, you'd need to move the drive from computer to computer so it's available.  Aomei would then run from the OS of that computer.  If it's a network drive, you need to be sure it's mapped right for that computer to have access to it including whatever user credentials are needed for the share.  Again, the OS of the computer you're backing up from is going to be crucial, and so long as it's a version of Windows supported by Aomei, you can back up to the same destination regardless of whether or not other backups were run from other versions of Windows.
