M.2 Windows 8.1 move to new M.2 drive?

How would I best move my windows 8.1 operating system from my M.2 SSD mounted on my motherboard to a new M.2 drive? I would like to install 256GB M.2 drive as my 128GB drive seems to have suffered some ESD damage.

  • Moonlight,

I would recommend creating a bootable USB drive with Aomei Backupper, then boot the PC with that device.  Save an image of the existing drive onto the USB drive.  Replace the M2 mounted SSD, then boot from the USB device to write the image onto the new drive.

Another option is to get an adapter to allow plugging the other drive up to a USB port.  Saving an image is cheaper and requires no additional hardware outside a USB thumb drive that you may already have.

  • Make sure you make a complete disk image rather than just a single partition.

  • I have done it all perfectly; thanks for both your concerns!
