Long formatting cannot be cancelled

My system is Win8.1 64 bit. Recently, I installed a 2TB disk to my pc and tried to format it as NTFS (the default quick one). However, about 8 mints pasted without finishing, so I tried to cancel it but failed. How upset I am! I know this problem may seems silly, but still need help. Thanks!

    Hi hellokit,

     2TB is a very large disk and could take time to format even if you selected "quick format". If this is an external disk then even longer time. It may seem to be frozen but I would wait at least a couple of hrs.
