Using USB created with Win8.1 UEFI with Win 7 MBR system

Testing AOMEI  2.02 with a new Win8.1 pro 64 build (UEFI,GPT no secure boot) I am using disk backup of both system reserved and C: partitions. The original USB WinPE USB I created with Win 7 pro x64 and AOMEI2.0 booted but I had no mouse control. I reformated and overwrote the USB with  AOMEI 2.02 Win PE (win 8.1) and rebooted aligning the partitions for SSD and enlarging the C: partiition. AOMEI worked perfectly and fast even using an old USB2 Seagate backup drive.

My question is can I use the newly created USB boot drive on my other older MBR, Win 7 pro x64 backups if I need to do a restore or do I need a boot disk for each OS Win 7 and Win 8.1?

  • You can use your new boot disk to restore the images of the older OS.  The Backupper software isn't tied to the OS it boots from, so you should have no trouble booting from a Windows 8.x USB drive to write a Windows 7 image to your target computer.
