Main Threads:reinstalling Win7 on SSD
  • I want to reinstall Win 7 on my SSD while keeping all my files on my HDD that I use as storage for all my video games. Is it possible for me to do so or do I have to remove the HHD, reinstall Win 7, and then plug the HHD back in?

  • Some ways you can do this:

    1.

Make an image of the HDD -> Restore image to SSD -> Done

    2.

Image the HDD while asking for all of your big documents to not be added -> restore image on SSD -> delete all but documents on HDD and organise them.

    3.

Install Windows on the SSD -> Delete all but your documents on the HDD -> organise the HD.

  • I have done as the first method as your advice and it did succeed. For the other two, I believe they also work though I haven't tried them. Anyway, the first one it the easiest, isn't it? Thanks a lot, ganon!image

  • Hi George,

There is a Migrate OS feature in both pay and free version of AOMEI Partition Assistant, it is easy and simple, it will directly migrate your OS (the OS related partitions, e.g. C drive and system reserved partition) from source to destination drive. But note that the free version can only migrate OS from MBR disk to MBR disk, not support MBR to GPT.

  • I have tired to migrate OS between my MBR disks; it works well. Love partition assistant!image
