clone/image drive before upgrading to win 10

I have a lenovo Yoga 13 with win 8.1 on and it is ready to upgrade to windows 10 but before I allow the upgrade I would like to make a clone/image/backup copy of the drive with win 8.1 on a USB drive (maybe boot issues with win 8.1/10?) so if I don't like win 10 I can restore back to win 8.1 as it was identically prior to upgrade. Can some one please advise the best method using aomei backer upper pro? I am unsure whether a cloned image or merely backup restore.
