Backup Scheme - disk space management
Hi
I am interested in the server ver.
disk space management meaning deleting old backups to save space,
but doing this without losing important backups.
let say I want to save 5 generation of full backups. (standard requirement)
option 1 in backup shame
The program will delete backups older
then 5 days ago backups.
this mean that if I will connect external disk that was replaced
more than 5 days ago. the program will delete ALL the old backups on it! -Very
Bad!
this option should be "The program will KEEP 5 latest backup.
option 2
The previous x versions of obsolete backup will be deleted
I tested it with x=5
the program did full backup then 5 differential backups (keeping
all of them)
then in the next backup did a differential backup and deleting all
5 old backups.
I don't understand the logic in that "Backup shame"
saving space MUST be with the option of saving last generation
(last= the most recent ones)
Thanks

That should be incorrect description.
Hi
So it seems that I don't understand this.
Can you please explain how can I save space and keep 5 recent backups on
rotating external disks?
I am using only full or differential backups
Thanks
Zuri
@data1995
I've already mentioned this a while ago in this forum. That's AOMEI logic but I'm surprised that it seems that we're are the only ones who critizice this behaviour.
My current solution is to manage the backups with differential backups and Windows tasks/batch scripts. Be aware of keeping the initial full backup.
@data1995You can use the workaround tobias said to keep 5 recent backups. If you use backup scheme, it delete all old backups except the new created one when it reaches the number you set. This shall be optimized in the future release

This Backup Schemeas it is is not only useless . in the backup world it is dangerous
please correct that soon with giving the ability to save (at alltimes) x generation
In me country this is a must have for insurance company.
about the batch workaround.
with this batch file I can backup my servers with windows built inbackup
I am buying backup software to do what I deed (and not writing scriptsfor it to work)
Thanks
