  @Djc, Generally, you don't need to format the target drive in advance.

  Would I still be able to boot up using that drive? I saw a
  msg pop up when I started to clone and then stopped and went back to formatting f it before proceeding. Tnx.

  @Djc, It only is a prompt information. The clone operation will overwrite the disk. Please confirm that you select the correct destination disk.

  @Djc, And, you can open windows disk management to check if the destination disk includes the "system" partition,
