(inconvenience) Backuper creates 2 additional Partitions on new System

henlo frens ,  need some input on how to restore to a new Windows installation

System A:
Windows installed on C: ( consisting of 3 Partitions that Windows automatically creates)
A Backup and Restore within the System goes smoothly .
Aomei maps the Partitions correctly and restores the System ( 3x Source to 3x Destination)

System B  :
- basically same System, just a fresh Windows install

When running the Backup process , Aomei does not map 3 Partitions to the 3 Existing ones,
It lets me select the Partitions from Source to restore,
and then select Destination .

Mapping MainPartition Source to Main Partition Destination fails at booting
Mapping all 3 Source Partitions to Main Partition results in Succesfull restoration and 1 Main Partition and 4 additional Partitions.
Missing the option to manually map the Partitions as needed , or format the drive , and the run the restoration

All in all the Aomei gets the Job done , just confused about those 2 partitions ...

  • On most modern UEFI Windows 10 & 11 installations, there are 4 partitions:

    1 EFI
    2 MSR Microsoft Reserved
    3 Windows
    4 WinRec Windows Recovery Environment

When viewing disk partitions by Windows Disk Management, it will not show the partition #2 MSR. The MSR is a hidden partition that has no file system format, it stores data in binary. If you need more info, you can read it on Wiki:

We appreciate your paragraphs about your System B that you have having trouble with, and could you please rewrite what is going on with your System B, using the terms I have described above, so that we can clearly understand what is going on?

Could you please attach several screenshots from Partition Assistant of your System B disk, before and after clone? Partition Assistant does show the partition #2 MSR, and provides us with a lot of info to help you.

Backupper gives you the option to create a System Backup, which is a great feature that usually works well, however in your situation, I recommend using Disk Backup (intelligent sector setting), because that will grab all of the partitions, instead of the ones it thinks you want. I have used Backupper thousands of times, and sometimes the System Backup does not backup all of the necessary Windows Partitions.

You said "Missing the option to manually map the Partitions as needed, or format the drive..."  -- you can edit the partitions during backup restoration. If you are using Backupper WinPE USB tool, you can go to Tools > Command Prompt > Diskpart.

Aomei WinPE Builder 2.0 USB, is a great free tool that includes: Partition Assistant, Backupper, Recuva, OSF Mount. Unfortunately, it does not work with internal NVMe drives, even if you add the driver manually.
