Learn the simple way to download and install Oculus games on different drive without the need to download the latest Oculus app.
The previous Oculus app can only be installed on your C: drive. The Oculus app installation will not take much disk space, but all the Oculus Rift games will be saved to where the Oculus app installation locates. That’s an issue to many users because their C: drive space is precious.
Many users have a small solid state drive (SSD) as their C: drive and a large hard disk drive (HDD) to store data. If that is your case, you may want to download and install Oculus games on a different drive to free some space out of your system drive.
If you download the latest Oculus and reinstall, you can easily select other drives to install games. If you already installed the previous version, you can need to do some extra steps to keep your installed games.
1. Backup Oculus app data. Before you start backing up, you need to shut down Oculus app.
2. Uninstall Oculus app. You can type "uninstall oculus" and select "Uninstall Oculus app" in the search results to complete the uninstallation.
3. Install the newest Oculus app. You can select another drive to install the app if you like.
4. Restore the games from the backup.
If you don't want to go through all these steps to let Oculus install to another drive, there is another way to move Oculus games to another drive.
If the new Oculus app is not that appealing to you and you want an easier way to get Oculus games on another partition, you can use a free tool - Oculus Mover that is designed to move Oculus games to another drive. With this freeware, you don't need to uninstall and reinstall Oculus app. The program will even detects the "Software" directory automatically, which makes the process even simpler.
Step 1: Download and run Oculus Mover. You need to shut down Oculus app before the following operation.
Step 2: Click the "…" button to select a different drive or a folder to save Oculus "Downloads" and "Software" folders.
Step 3: Click "Start Move" to move Oculus games.
In a short while, the process will be done. Be aware that the program will delete the files in the original location in order to free more space on C drive. Then you can download, install and run Oculus games on a different drive. There is a small chance that you may need to restart your computer before you can open Oculus app.
