Two Backupper problems

edited January 2015 in AOMEI Products Support

Hello,

I installed AOMEI Backupper Standard Edition (version 2.2) on my PC equipped with Windows 7 Home
Premium (64 bit) and I have two questions/problems:

1) I tried the creation of the WinPE boot CD and all seemed OK, but when I executed the boot using
the CD the System Recovery Options Menu appeared instead of the Backupper interface. I tried the
same operation on another PC with Windows 7 Professional and all went well. The two installations
have also another difference: the Home Premium PC has a system reserved partition containing
the boot files on the primary disk (and a different partition for the C: unit), whereas in the
Professional PC the boot files resides in the single (C:) partition of the primary disk. Could
    this be the problem?

2) When I execute a backup (of any type) the Windows Event Log registers some error events with id 8194,
generated by the VSS service, containing this messages:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface.
hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either
        the writer or requestor process.

        Operation:
          Gathering Writer Data

        Context:
          Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}
          Writer Name: System Writer
          Writer Instance ID: {603e32d9-a90a-44e0-b138-78af58022559}.

Is this error a real problem or can I ignore it? Is there some way to remove it?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Update:

I've verified that the second problem also occurs on the Professional PC, so it seems a real Backupper

problem (not a Windows Problem).

  • Daneel,

With the first problem, is the CD the first boot item in the PC BIOS and does it have the highest priority?

The CD might be the second item in boot order, if you have USB as the first. You need the hard drive to eb the last item in the boot order.

You can disable AOMEI from using VSS, by selecting 'Advance' options and then selecting 'don't use VSS' from the VSS tab.

If you need to use VSS, check in Services.msc that VSS is enabled and running. I assume it must be as you get an error message.

Do you log on to your Windows desktop or is it set for autologin?

    Hello bodgy,

for the first problem: I'm pretty sure the CD is the first boot device also because I've tried the boot on the Windows 7 Home Premium PC using the CD created with the Windows 7 Professional PC and all works.

For the second problem: actually the VSS service is stopped on both PCs (it is set to start manually - this is the Windows default AFAIK), but even if I start it the problem remains. I normally log in to my Windows desktop using username/password. I don't know if this can help but I've extracted the binary data of the error event. The interesting thing is the reference to the user NT_AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE (SERVIZIO DI RETE into Italian). All my backups are performed on local/USB connected hard disks.

You can try to use AOMEI PE Builder to create a bootable media on Windows 7 Home
Premium. If it still appears System Recovery Options Menu, post it here again.

  • Same problems on 2008R2 Standart, aoemi service workin from LocalService, om EvrentLogs have:

    RegOpenKeyExW(-2147483646,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag,...).. hr = 0x80070005,

    and

    IVssWriterCallback.  hr = 0x80070005

  • Hello Daneel ,

1)You create the bootable CD both computer right? One is sucess, but one is wrong.

Are you sure you create the bootable CD sucessfully in the first computer?

Please use the bootable CD made in second computer to boot your first computer, see if it is sucess to boot into Backupper page. And also ,hope ou can send us the screenshotofo your first computer.

    2) For the VSS problem, as said, please choose to use the Aomei VSS, then the error message is not here for your again.
