How can i get my Bytes per sector down to 512 from 4k?

I currently own a Seagate GoFlex 3TB external drive. I am currently trying to recover the data that was lost. The problem I am facing is I can't recover the disk, because the Bytes per sector on the disk is greater than 512. I am not a computer literate user. Is there any way to get the Bytes per sector down to 512?

  • Slvrgckg,

This is an operation that's setup when formatting the drive.  It's not something that can be changed on the fly without a reformat and the loss of the data that was there before.  Also, the larger cluster size (512 bytes for 4 KB) is necessary for the file system to address the entire disk.

  • Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

  • You're welcome.  Please let us know if you need anything further.  Perhaps if you can describe more of what is happening there may still be a way to recover some or all of your lost data despite the cluster size.
