What Password is Required to Set Up Gmail Notifications?

Using the Standard (free) version.  In setting up notifications of back-up activities, a gmail address is required and also an "App Password."  What is the App Password?  Are we to put in our Google Account general password here (seems like a bad idea).  Thanks.

    @Alonzo, You need to type into your Gmail email address and password so that it can use Gmail server to send the notification emails.
