My first inclination would be to check the boot record in the system bios. If the bios still shows the HDD and you physically changed it out the system may not be able to find it.
@AJH, @JimboBonita, What boot error did you get? Please take a photo of the boot error to us. And, please boot from the source disk, and connect the target one, then take a screenshot of windows disk management so that we check the disks. You can press Win+R, then run "diskmgmt.msc" to open windows disk management. Btw, please confirm if you connect the target disk as the internal drive when you boot from it.
