Can I merge an unallocated partition and not lose data

I have a large amount of data on a Samsung usb hard drive that is now showing an unallocated partition.
I need to recover the data on it and wonder what is the best way?

    Have you tried MiniTool Partition Wizard?  It has a tool called Partition Recovery that looks like it will do what you are asking.

    @Wilppc, You can download and try AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard, then run Partition Recovery Wizard to scan the USB drive to see if it will can find your lost partitions.
