AOMEI Backupper 7.4.0 on Win 11 causes Explorer to go into a loop

This version allowed for quick restores by using Win explorer on .adi files to do quick restores. Upon Checking the Microsoft Onedrive directory, which I mirror on Win 11, Explorer it goes into a loop.  CPU is registered to explorer in the background even when I shut down the explorer window. Rebooting is the only way to kill the task. (I'm sure there is another way to kill the process, but not sure if the developers expected that behavior to occur).

  • @rickapel Can you try to mount the image as a virtual drive instead to check if the problem remains?
And, you can try to close the anti-virus program and try again.
Also, select Start-->Settings-->Update&Security-->Windows Security to open Windows Security Center. Then select “Virus&threat protection”, click “Allow an app through Controlled folder access” under Ransomware protection to add “AOMEI Backupper” as an allowed app.
Or, please turn off the “Real-time protection” under Manage settings.
  • Hello @admin,
I mounted the backup image as a virtual drive as you suggested and it worked perfectly for the mirrored OneDrive folder.

I didn't think that I had to do that initially as I could access non-cloud files just file by simply clicking on the the .adi image I wanted to look and I had instant access to the non-cloud files so thanks for setting me straight with your advice.

Please note that I did not have to shut down nor make any security allowances to Bitdefender to get this to work.

Since this is my very first post to the forum, I'm not sure if there is a way to mark an issue solved. Please advise with a comment if there is a "close out" procedure on items in this discussion forum.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • @rickapel Thanks for your update. It is fine that it works.
  • "Enhanced "Explore Image": Now it allows to double-click the *.adi and *.afi image files created by AOMEI Backupper to directly view and copy backed-up files from Windows Explorer, which is very helpful for quick restoration."

Explorer opens some unusual NEW window, I would like it to be a regular window, not NEW, then it can be opened in Total Commander without Explorer.

  • @Henu3duka Currently, in V7.4.0, it is able to double-click the image file to drectly open the backup data in Windows File Explorer. Actually, it is a normal Windows. Yes, itt will indeed open a new Window to check the backuped data.
