Backupper PE disk with Win XP?

edited December 2014 in AOMEI Products Support

I recently created a PE disk for Win 7 (64)  I also use a machine running Win XP.

Will the same disk work with XP as well in a disaster recovery attempt?

Thanks

Dave

  • Dsmail,

This will work fine so long as the XP computer has a 64 bit CPU.  When you build the PE on a Win7 x64 system, it will build a 64 bit PE and vice versa with 32 bit software.

  • No it doesn't - it's an older 32 bit machine. I assume therefore I need to make another PE disk from the 32 bit machine to work with with it. Glad I asked now instead of finding out when it won't boot. I    Where can I find a guide to make a PE disk in XP?

  • I withdraw that last stupid question as you answered it in your last post

  • Dsmail,

You will almost certainly need to install the WAIK on your XP system to build a PE, since the recovery environment that's used in Windows 7/8 won't be present.  Once you've made your PE, though, you can remove the WAIK if you need the disk space back.  If you do use it, I recommend you test it and possibly make more than one bootable medium before removing it.
