4TB GPT WD hard drive with only 1.6TB showing up

edited August 2014 in AOMEI Products Support

I have recently installed a new internal 4TB WD disk in my computer and also formatted it GPT style. However, only 1.6TB was showed.
I have searched the internet for advice but found little help.
I have updated all my hard disks and re-formatted the new one to GPT style but still get the same result.

Now, I have nothing to do but go here.

  • GPT is a partition table type.  What file system are you using?  It could be a limitation of the file system rather than the partition table type.  Ensure you're using NTFS or exFAT rather than FAT32.

  • Oh! My file system exactly is FAT32. So, if I change it to NTFS, the problem will be solved, right?

    I'll try it!

  • I do not recal off the top of my head what the maximum size is for FAT32, but it is smaller than NTFS and exFAT.  Remember, even if you change the file system type you will still need to expand the partition out to take up the remainder of the drive.
