MBR vs. GPT which should I choose?

I'm initializing a new HDD and I'm asked to choose a partition style -
MBR or GPT. I'm not quite understand the difference between them even I read some releated information online. Can some one give me a little more information?

  • Hi Jeeic2,

In brief, GPT is fit for the disk which is larger than 2TB and the OS which supports GPT partition table. In addition, if you want to install OS on GPT parttion table disk, your motherboard must support UEFI boot. Note, not all Windows systems support this partitioning scheme.

    >  Windows XP 32-bit, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4, or Windows 95/98 cannotread, write, and boot from GPT disks, they will see only the Protective MBR.

    >  Windows XP x64 Edition can use GPT disks for data only.

    >  All versions of Windows 7/8/8.1, Windows Vista, and Windows Server2008/2012 can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for64-bit editions on UEFI-based systems.

    Otherwise, you can choose MBR.
