thumb drive backups

I have a 238GB thumb drive.  It has 159GB used.  It takes a 1/2 hour for this to do a disk backup.  Another program I use for backups takes less than 5 minutes.  Is this  normal?

    Did you backup to another thumb drive or local drive?
