Syncing files

I have an existing data file on a main pc and a copy of it on a NAS. I wish to use the sync facility to sync the 2 files. Either can be updated. On my first attempt the sync procedure created a copy of the pc file on the NAS.
Can I sync 2 existing files and is it a 2 way sync please??

    Cannot sync 2 existing folders, and it's a one way sync.
