New HD Initialization error

I am a new member trying to copy a disk to a USB-mounted 1TB hard drive.  When I try to initialize the new drive, I get an error 45 and it will not initialize.  I'm running Windows 8.1. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

    We are so sorry for the problem you encountered. Please use Windows disk managemnt to initialize your disk, right click My Computer--Manage--Disk Management, then if your disk have not been initialized, it may automatically warn you to initialize it. If it has been initilized, please delete the partition and then retry copying your disk to USB hard drive.
