System backup of 2. system or on external drive?

Hello.

So iv got an hard drive from another ccomputer connected to my PC. The HDD has 2 partitions which one has a windows on it. 
What type of backup should I use to get this in working order in teh future?

I tried system backup but that only lets me backup my current running system, not the one on the other drive.


Wil partition backup work so the partiton and windows on it wil work in the future?
