Newbie Question: "Disk Backup" or "File Backup"?

Hello, everyone,

I'm a new user. I would like make weekly backups of my entire Windows 10 disk, and then be able to use that back up for both restoring the entire disk (in case it crashes) and to restore individual files. Is this possible with AOMEI Backupper Standard?

It appears to my inexperienced eyes that one uses Disk Backup for full disk restore, but one cannot restore individual files from such a backup.

Conversely, it appears one uses "File Backup" to create an image from which one can restore individual files, but one cannot restore the entire disk (crash recovery) from such a backup

I'd like to not have to make TWO backups each week.

Thank you for your advice.

Allen

  • Is there two disk in your computer?

  • Hi Allen,

"I would like make weekly backups of my entire Windows 10 disk, and then
be able to use that back up for both restoring the entire disk (in case
it crashes) and to restore individual files. Is this possible with AOMEI
    Backupper Standard?"

    Yes, that´s possible.

"AOMEI Backupper is a powerful and free backup and recovery utility, which is totally
free of charge. You can access its function of "image file explore"
under the utilities option. Also, you can mount the image file to a
partition in "My Computer" and to restore files that you need by
    "copying" and "pasting".

So there´s no need to do a separate file-backup if you do a disk-backup.

You can always access  individual files from disk-backup and then copy them to your system.

  • Thank Rosika. You are right. If you do a disk backup, you can explore your image and copy and paste the files you need.  But if Allen want to backup his disk to another disk scheduledly,he need two disk in his computer.Because the path to save the image will keep same when it runs the backup at one time.

  • Hi admin,

    thanks for the additional information.

    I appreciate your good work.
