Can't copy Partition or HD

I am trying to upgrade my laptop computer from a 500 GB hd to a 1TB hd and when I try to copy either a partition or the disk to the new disk I get this error:  "The Bytes per sector on the source and destination disk are not equal, so the program is unable to copy. How do I remedy this so I can upgrade to the larger drive?

    Please check whether or not your source drive and destination drive has the same bytes per sector. If not, I am sorry that you cannot copy by using Partition Assistant.

    Run Partition Assistant, right click a partition--select Properties

    So apparently there is no way to change the bytes per sector?

    Even the upgrade won't work for this?
