Problem with restore from USB attached HD

Hi there!
I have backed up a hard drive to a usb attached hard drive (which all
went well) but now I need to restore this to the original (internal)
disk. To achieve this I have created a Backupper rescue CD and booted
from an externally mounted CD drive. This works fine (and assigns the
drive letter 'E' to the CD drive for some reason) but then I attach the
usb drive containing the backup, which shows up as drive 'C'. I
can navigate to the location of the backed-up file but when I try to
restore from this drive Backupper hangs. I believe this is because
there's a drive letter conflict (part of the disk to be restored will
become drive 'C'), so, is it possible to assign another drive letter to
the source (USB attached hard drive) like 'Z' for example so it can clearly be
distinguished as a different drive letter to that being restored - if
you follow my meaning.

I tried assigning the drive letter 'Z' to the external USB drive and it retains this drive letter in windows 7 between insertions but going back to trying the restore, the drive again only shows up as drive 'C'

Can anyone suggest how I can overcome this problem?
