Clone to bootable USB hard drive?

Is there any way to clone (or restore) my system to a USB attached hard drive such that I will then be able to boot from that drive while it is still USB attached?

    Ah, well. Thanks anyway.  I didn't realize that Windows made it so difficult to avoid swapping disks in and out of impossibly constructed laptops.  :-(

    Come to think of it why on earth would I imagine that Microsoft wouldn't intentionally make it difficult to boot Windows from a USB hard drive.  Silly me.  :-)
