How to copy MBR without copying all partitions

I have a 2TB hard drive divided into 4 500gb partitions. Drive C has the operating system and programs, Drive D has Data.


I want to clone the C Drive only to a 1TB external hard drive so I have a backup drive in case my 2TB hard drive fails (I back the D Drive up to another hard drive more frequently than I want to back up the C Drive).


My understanding is that with Aomei Backupper I can backup individual partitions to smaller drives. What I'm unsure about is how I back up the Master Boot Record (MBR). I assume I need this to restore the C Drive as a system drive.


I'd be very grateful for any suggestions or advice.
