Linux boot disk DVD won't boot, v2.2

Just reinstalled Windows 8.1 and got latest AOMEI Backupper.

Made the Linux "recovery" DVD, but it will not boot!

Yes, I have done the magic dance to tell Windows 8.1 to boot from the DVD drive--two different ways:

first, from within Windows, Charms>Settings>Change-PC-Settings...etc

It restarts, then boots from the HDD into Windows 8.1.

second, using the Toshiba method of F12 at splash screen>select DVD boot.

It restarts, then boots from the HDD into Windows 8.1.

The files on the DVD root, made from within the program, are

ISOLINUX (folder)

BZIMAGE 7,777 KB

INITRD.GZ 34,345 KB

A boot DVD that won't is useless.

(Why does the captcha reject so often when you know you have typed it right?)

I had one that  was "5bfx" as clear as day...rejected!! as were about 10 others

  • And the solution?

  • Do you have to do this every time you want to boot from DVD,

or disable it and leave it that way?

  • I found that, with secure boot off, the DVD would still not boot.

Boot mode also has to be changed from UEFI to CSM.

THEN, after selecting DVD as boot device (F12), it booted from the DVD (whew).

BUT, computer set that way will not boot into Windows! even when selected to HDD boot.

    Gads, what a frickin' mess.

  • Last time I was in Win8, Backupper offered to burn a GPT WinPE boot disk, and recommended doing so based on the system's architecture. I did so, and the disk worked fine. If you do that you can leave the boot "security" enabled.
