Frequently asked problem when create partition for Windows 7

To many Windows 7 users, they will encounter a common problem when they create partition with the built-in Disk Management. Following problem is one of Windows 7 users asked in forums:

“I want to create an additional partition in my laptop and for this I used the standard procedure of windows Disk management, Shrinking volume then creating partition in the unallocated space but as I follow the procedure of creating new partition from the unallocated space I get and error message as follows:
The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk to dynamic disk. IF you convert the disk to dynamic you will not be able to start installed operating system from any volume on the disk (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?
I click on YES then again an error comes
Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system or server configuration. Dynamic disks are not supported clusters.
And after this the process stops….”

The user got such error message because there are already four primary partitions on the hard disk. Especially for some OEM computers like HP, when we get new computer, it was well partitioned to three or four primary partitions. So, when we plan to create partition, we will get the some error messages.

Solution—Create logical partition to avoid changing basic disk to dynamic disk

New Simple Volume Wizard has no selectable option for creating logical partition in Windows 7, the new partition will be created as primary partition by default. So, to break such limitation, we could use Aomei Partition Assistant Pro to create logical partition. Not only has this partition magic pro tool had the magic main features like changing partition size, copying partition, but also holds some additional features like making a partition, wiping hard drive, hide/unhide partition and so on.

Free download partition magic pro first, if you are running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 32 bit, free partition manager does well too, download partition magic free to enjoy.

1. In main window of Aomei Partition Assistant, right click the unallocated space and choose “Create”:

Create partition option

2. In new window, specify the new partition info like partition label, file system, and drive letter. We could create the partition as logical partition by choosing from the drop-down menu:

Create logical partition

3. Back to the main interface; commit the changes by clicking “Apply” on the toolbar, after several seconds, you will see the new partition was created as logical partition:

Created logical partition

Creating logical partition is done! After doing this, we have no need to worry about the disk will change into dynamic disk from now on.
